History of Halloween

Its that time of the year.  My favorite holiday. . . . . Halloween!Halloween is the one of the oldest holidays.  It's one of the most popular holidays, second only to ChristmasHalloween culture can be traced back to the Druidsa Celtic culture in Ireland, Britain and Northern Europe over 2000 years ago. It was originally a pagan holiday, Samhain honoring the dead. The Celts celebrated the festival to mark the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winterthey also believed the barrier between the living and the dead was thinnestoften involved rituals that included human sacrifice.

The Celts believed the souls of the dead roamed the streets at nighttime. To appease these evil spirits they would leave gifts and treats outside to please the ghost and goblinsto ensure next years crops would be a good year. This custom evolved later on as trick-or-treating. Costumes were adorned during these early festivitiesusually those made from the skins and heads of dead animals. Owwww, scaryWhen the Romans invaded most of the Celtic territory.

The holiday Samhain then became All Hallows Eveas time goes on the word All Hallows Eve started to sound like HalloweenThat how the term Halloween came to beIn the early days of the new world/AmericaHalloween had zero presenceThe new world was anti HalloweenIrish immigrants brought the holiday to North America in the mid-1800sback then Halloween was just praying, feasting, and playing games such as such as bobbing for apples. Which is still a Halloween traditionAfter World War II we saw a boom in Halloween but nothing compared to what we see todayAll the way to the 90's or even 2000.

 Halloween was consider a kids holidaySo what changed all of that?You can also credit Hollywood and store campaigns for making Halloween what it is today. Even the ladies are choosing this holiday to wear sexy oufitsIn 2014, 7. 4 Billion dollars was spent on Halloween merchandiseAll good things for the economyHalloween falls on a Saturday this yearso no excuse and celebrate it in your own way of either trick or treating,handing out treats,pranking, partying, watching scary movies, telling ghost stories, carving pumpkins or going to your local haunt attraction.
